📚 About Nostr Hero

The Origin Story

Nostr Hero began as a simple idea: what if your Nostr public key could become a D&D character?

Using deterministic algorithms, your unique npub generates a consistent hero with a specific race, class, background, stats, and starting equipment. The same key always produces the same character—no randomness, no RNG, just cryptographic destiny.

What started as character generation evolved into a full web-based RPG. Now you can take that deterministic hero on actual adventures: explore locations, fight monsters, cast spells, complete quests, and build a legend.

How Deterministic Generation Works

1. Your Nostr Key = The Seed

Your npub is hashed and used as the seed for all character generation. Same key = same character, always.

2. Race Selection

Weighted distribution determines your race (Human, Elf, Dwarf, etc.). Different races have different probabilities based on fantasy population dynamics.

3. Class Selection

Your race influences class weights. Elves are more likely to be Rangers, Dwarves favor Fighters, etc. The seed picks from these weighted options.

4. Background & Alignment

Background is influenced by class (Rogues get Criminal, Wizards get Sage). Alignment is independently generated but flavors your character's personality.

5. Ability Scores

Virtual dice rolls (seeded by your key) generate STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, CHA. Class enforces minimums (Wizards need 12+ INT) and caps stats at 16, floor at 8.

6. Starting Equipment

Class and background determine starting gear. Fighters get martial weapons and armor, Wizards get spellbooks and component pouches, etc.

Nostr Integration

Nostr Hero uses the Nostr protocol for authentication and future features:

Technical Approach:

The wiki will use Gollum (the same engine that powers GitHub wikis) running as a headless service, with Nostr Hero's Go backend acting as the frontend proxy.

This allows full control over styling (matching the retro pixel aesthetic) while leveraging Gollum's powerful Git-based wiki engine.
